Mkts rise sharply on back of positive global cues

The Indian markets rallied along with the other Asian markets. The Sensex ended up 692 points at 19854. while the Nifty was up 219 points at 5985. The CNX Midcap Index was up 2.2%.

The Indian markets rallied along with the other Asian markets. The Sensex ended up 692 points at 19854. while the Nifty was up 219 points at 5985. The CNX Midcap Index was up 2.2%, BSE Small Cap Index was up 1.42%. BSE IT Index was up 6%, BSE Oil & Gas, Bankex were up nearly 3.5% each. The NSE Advance-Decline ratio was at 3:1, and the total market turnover was at Rs 1 lakh crore.

Guj Poll Impact
Mundra Port was up 9%, GHCL was up 13.7%, Gujarat Narmada Valley was up 9.4%.

F&O Snapshot

Marketwide rollover picked up and crossed the 40% mark. Nifty December Futures ended at 7-pt premium vs 25-30 pts during the day. Nifty Jan Futures ended at 3-pt premium vs 15-20 pts during the day. Short covering was seen in early trade, followed by long rollovers. Marketwide rollover was at 42% and the Nifty rollover was at 53%. IT saw a mix of long/short rollover, metals & banks saw strong rollover.

IFCI was up 5.5%, added 2.2 crore shares in January, rollover at 47%. RPL was up 4%, and added 2.1 crore shares in OI, rollover was at 48%. VSNL was up 9.2%, and added 2.5 lakh shares in OI, rollover was at 31.6%. RNRL was up 3.6%, and it added 1.5 crore shares in OI, rollover was at 32.4%.
