Sensex dn 35 pts at 19931; Nifty dn 14 pts at 5961

Markets were skittish ahead of FOMC meeting tomorrow in US. Sensex was down 35 points at 19931 while Nifty was down 14 points at 5961. CNX Midcap was up 0.9% while BSE Smallcap Index was up 1.7%.


Markets were skittish ahead of FOMC meeting tomorrow in US. Sensex was down 35 points at 19931 while Nifty was down 14 points at 5961. CNX Midcap was up 0.9% while BSE Smallcap Index was up 1.7%. BSE Realty Index & BSE Bank Index hit 52 week high. BSE Realty Index was up 2.1%, in which Unitech was up 3.3%. BSE Bank Index was up 0.95%, in which PNB was up 3.1% and ICICI Bank was up 2%. BSE FMCG Index was down 0.8%, in which HUL was down 1.5%. BSE Capgoods Index was down 0.4%, in which Suzlon was up 2.7% and BHEL was down 2%. Index gainers were GAIL, hits lifetime high, up 6.4%, HPCL, up 3.5%. Index losers were HCL Tech, down 3.5% and VSNL, down 3%. Non Index gainers were Ansal Properties, up 8%, Omaxe, up 7%, Videocon Industries, up 9.2%, Exide, up 11%, Alok Industries, up 10%, Rain Calcining, up 20% and Dhampur Sugar, up 20%. Non Index losers were Eicher Motor, down 13%, UTV, down 7% and Four Soft, down 6.8%. Advance-Decline ratio was at 2:1. Total market turnover was at Rs 71084 crore.

FNO Snapshot:

Nifty futures premium was at 18.4 points, it added 12.5 lakh shares in OI. Low volumes action was seen in select stocks. Few Momentum stocks perform were TTML, IFCI and Arvind Mills. Sugar stocks saw unwinding. Oil & Gas space saw OI buildup with a mix of fresh longs and shorts.

IFCI up 5.5%; added 1.15 crore shares in OI
Nagarjuna Fertilizers up 2.3%; added 80.7 lakh shares in OI
Ispat up 2.4%; added 38 lakh shares in OI

Kesoram: Up 10.9%; added 1.1 lakh shares; Strong CoC seen
Alok Industries: Up 9.2%; added 7.43 lakh shares (Huge buildup in last hour of trade)
TTML: Up 9.4%; sheds 11.2 lakh shares
Lanco Infratech: Up 7.6%; added 1.94 lakh shares
Ballarpur: Up 8%; added 1.42 lakh shares
GAIL: Up 6.7%; added 3.8 lakh shares; Negative CoC; Strong cash buying

RPL: Rs 1155 crore
Triveni Engineering: Rs 1083 crore

Global markets today:

Asian stocks fell for the 1st time in last 4 days. Hang Seng, Korea, Taiwan were down over 1% each. Federal Reserve decision on interest rates tomorrow. In Taiwan, FIIs net sell equities worth $ 45.3 million in today’s trade (Prov). FIIs bought $ 889 million during last week.

Buzzers:

Hind Motor: Market rumors that Mitsubishi Motors is eyeing the co's casting and forging unit at Uttarpara near Kolkata. Hind Motor's management has categorically denies these rumors.

Rain Calcining: Jan 02, 2008 has been fixed as the record date for merger of Rain Commodities with the company.

Abhishek Industries: To set up high end paper manufacturing facility. FY08 revenues from paper seen at Rs 400 crore from Rs 150 crore in FY07.

Financial Technologies: Close to acquiring US-based co for $ 400 million: Sources.

Piramyd Retail: Indiabulls Real estate buys out Ashok Piramal's stake in company. Buys 64% for Rs 208 cr, to make open offer for 20% at Rs 74.73/share.

Eicher Motors: Falls over 25% from day's highs on no major surprises in new JV news. Down due to discount given to holding company JV on transfer of CV business.

Union Bank: Says plans to go for rights issue in first quarter of 2008. ABN-AMRO keeps Buy on bank, target Rs 215.40.

Man Industries: Plans to invest Rs 1,350 crore in life insurance JV in next 3 years. Still off 52-week high of Rs 332; volumes less than average.
