Markets continue to tarde choppy for 2nd day running

Mkt continue to tarde choppy for second day running. Sensex swung over 400 pts while Nifty swung nearly 100 pts for second ray running. Profit booking continues in momentum stocks. Sensex ends flat at 20870 while Nifty ends down 16 pts at 6272. CNX Midcap, BSE Small cap were down nearly 1%.

Sensex ends flat at 20870 while Nifty ends down 16 points at 6272. CNX Midcap, BSE Small cap were down nearly 1%. Midcap IT and Sugar Stocks perform in today’s session. In IT stocks, I-flex was up 8%, Mphasis was up 6.2%, Patni Computers was up 3.8%, Hexaware was up 2.8%. In Sugar stocks, Shree Renuka Sugars was up 12.9%, Sakthi Sugar was up 15.7%, Triveni Engineering was up 4.5%. BSE Oil & Gas Index was down 1.7%, in which RPL was down 6%, BPCL was down 5.5%, Essar Oil was down 3.3%, HPCL was down 2.6%.

BSE Auto Index was down 0.9%, in which Punjab Tractor was up 5.7% while M&M was down 2.5%. BSE Capgoods Index was down 0.7%, in which Siemens was up 2.1%, BHEL was down 2.5%, KEC Infra was down 4.7%. BSE Realty Index was up 0.6%, in which DLF was up 1.8%, HDIL was up 12.2%, Parsvnath was down 8%, Ansal Properties was down 3.5%. Other index gainers were NTPC, up 4.6%, HDFC, up 3.2%, GSK Pharma, up 3.2%. NSE Advance Decline ratio stood at 3:8. Total market turnover was at Rs 1.05 lakh crore vs Rs 1.21 lakh crore yesterday.

Global markets today:

Asian markets rebounded from their early lows. Hang Seng was up 3.2%, Taiwan was up 3.4%, Korea was up 2.8%, Shanghai was up 1.6% from day's low. Continuous speculation about 50 bps cut by Fed. Gold touched an all time at $891/ounce during the day. Resource firms gained on a bounce back in crude oil and gold prices. In Taiwan, FIIs net sell in equities were worth $ 157 million in today’s trade (Prov). FIIs have sold $ 1.56 billion till now in the month of January in Taiwan.
