Biggest single day absolute pt gain for Sensex ever

Today's was the biggest single day absolute point gain for Sensex ever. Sensex ends up 1140 points at 18362 while Nifty ends up 350 points at 5383. CNX Midcap ends down 6.5% while BSE Smallcap was down 4%. BSE Realty was up 10.3%, in which Unitech was up 17.7% and DLF was up 5.8%. BSE Metals was up 9.8%, in which SAIL was up 15%, Hindalco was up 15.7%, Nalco was up 12.8%. BSE Bank Index was up 7.9%, in which PNB was up 7.9%, HDFC Bank was up 6.5%. BSE IT Index was up 6.7%, in which HCL Tech was up 8.5%, Infosys was up 6.8%, Wipro was up 5.1%, TCS was up 4.9%. BSE Auto was up 6.6%, in which Bajaj Auto was up 7.8%, M&M was up 7.5%, Hero Honda was up 6.6%. BSE Oil & Gas was up 6.4%, in which ONGC was up 7.3%, Reliance was up 5.1%, GAIL was up 4.2%.

In sugar stocks, Bajaj Hindusthan was up 28.7%, Balrampur Chini was up 24.6%. Momentum stocks were HOEC, up 26.3%, Essar Oil, up 24.7%, Adlabs, up 21.3%, Chambal Fertilizers, up 21.2%, Arvind Mills, up 15.7%, HCC, up 15.6%. NSE Advance Decline ratio stood at 1:3. Total turnover was at Rs 57,603 Cr Vs Rs 63,009 Cr.

F&O Snapshot:

Nifty Jan trades at premium for the day; Nifty witnesses short rollover. Momentum FNO stocks saw double digit gains. Current Nifty Future witnesses long buildup. Marketwide Rollover was at 15%, lower than D-4 average. Select large caps, momentum stocks saw rollovers pick up. F&O Turnover was at Rs 39000 crore Vs tunover on Monday which was Rs 82241 crore.

Global markets today:

Asian markets trade strong after news of economic stimulus package and tax rebates. President Bush unveil $ 150 billion economic stimulus package and tax rebate for individuals. Hang Seng was up 6.7%, Thailand was up 4.2%, Jakarta was up 4%, Straits Times was up 3.6%. Nikkei 225 was up nearly 4%, biggest advance since March 2002. Kospi index climbed for a third day
Australia's S&P/ASX 200 Index rose the most in a decade. Commodities surged with Gold hitting an all time high. In Taiwan, FIIs net buy equities worth $ 142.75 million in today’s trade (Prov). Gradual buying was seen in last 3 days, FIIs buy $ 220 million. Prior to this, FIIs have sold $ 1.35 billion in 4 days.

Global economies:

South Korea's economy expanded faster than estimated. China economy expanded more than 11% for Q4, supporting global growth.

Data To Watch:

Markets to react to Microsoft numbers, which came after market close. Before the open tomorrow, 17 cos will report, including Dow component Caterpillar.
