Sensex dn 99 pts at 20728; Nifty up 7 pts at 6207

Mkts trade choppy with low tournover and some relief seen for midcap / small cap stocks. Sensex was down 99 pts at 20728 while Nifty was up 7 pts at 6207. Nifty Junior was up 2.6%. CNX Midcap Index was up 0.8% while BSE Small cap was down 1.3%.

Markets trade choppy with low tournover and some relief seen for midcap / small cap stocks. Sensex was down 99 points at 20728 while Nifty was up 7 points at 6207. Nifty Junior was up 2.6%. CNX Midcap Index was up 0.8% while BSE Small cap was down 1.3%. BSE Oil & Gas Index was up 2.1%, in which BPCL was up 7.5%, HPCL was up 4.5%, Reliance was up 3% and RPL was up 2.3%. BSE IT Index was down 2.6%, in which Wipro was down 5.7%, Infosys was down 3.3%, TCS was down 2.9% and Satyam was down 2.9%. Index gainers were Hero Honda, up 6.6%, Tata Power, up 5.1%, NTPC, up 4.6%, Idea, up 4.4%. Index losers were Bharti Airtel, down 6%, Maruti, down 4%, Sun Pharma, down 3.7%, Nalco, down 2.7%. Midcap Banking buzzers were UCO Bank, up 10%, Bank of Baroda, up 5.5%, Indian Bank, up 8.7%, Axis Bank, up 8.4%. Non-Index gainers were JP Associates, up 5.5%, Jindal Steel, up 7.2%, Neyveli Lignite, up 5.4%, RNRL, up 7.2%, Petronet LNG, up 4.7%, MRPL, up 4%, Bata, up 7.4%. Non-Index losers were Mundra Port, down 4.7%, Videocon Industries, down 5%, Bajaj Hindusthan, down 4.3%, DCW, down 5%. NSE Advance Decline ratio stood at 3:2. Total market turnover was at Rs 78,227 crore.

New Listing: Porwal Auto ends at Rs 79.6 vs listing price of Rs 85 (Issue price of Rs 75).

FNO Snapshot:

Nifty future ends day at 18 points premium after discount for most of the day; add 22 lakh shares (prov). Stock Futures saw action pick day end; however no major change seen in Stock Future OI. Power stocks saw huge long buildup. Bharti, IT, Auto Stocks continue to see short buildup. RIL, up 3.2%; added 3.28 lakh shares; turnover at Rs 2666 crore.

Peninsula Land: up 10%; added 6.1 lakh shares
Shree Renuka: up 10%; added 1.1 lakh shares

Neyveli Lignite: up 6.8%; added 6.13 lakh shares
RNRL: up 6.5%; sheds 43.7 lakh shares (In F&O Curb); sheds 5 % OI

Global markets today:

Asian markets end weak amid volatile day of trade. Japanese stock markets were closed Monday for a holiday. Straits Times was down 2.2%, Hang Seng was down 1.5%, Jakrata, Kospi were down 1%. Rumors of Citigroup, JP Morgan and Merrill Lynch are expected to big losses and more capital raising plans.

Taiwan Index was up 1.8% following win by the Nationalist Party in Saturday's legislative elections. Hopes of an easing in cross-strait tensions in Taiwan. CLSA raised Taiwan from neutral to a 2 percentage point overweight with the money taken from China. Citigroup says that Taiwan looks very attractive after a year of disappointing performance. In Taiwan; FIIs net buy in equities were worth $ 707 million in today’s trade (Prov). FIIs have sold $ 1.14 billion in last week.
