Sensex up 326.5 pts at 18852.8; Nifty up 89 pts at 5608

Markets recover from days low afer a knee jerk reaction on account of bomb blast news. Sensex ends up 326.5 pts at 18852.8. It recovered around 300 pts from days low. Nifty managed to close above 5,600 and was up 89 pts at 5608. CNX Midecap Index was up 1.6% while BSE Small cap Index was up 1.1%.

Huge volatility noticed during the day amid news of Lucknow bomb blasts. Markets recover from days low afer a knee jerk reaction on account of bomb blast news. Sensex ends up 326.5 points at 18852.8. It recovered around 300 points from days low. Nifty managed to close above 5,600 and was up 89 points at 5608. CNX Midecap Index was up 1.6% while BSE Small cap Index was up 1.1%. Siemens was up 2.7%, off nearly 10% form days high on profit booking. BSE Bankex was the weakest sector of the day after yesterdays outperformance. Realty stocks gained after taking knock yesterday. BSE Realty Index was up 3.5%, in which DLF was up 5.9% and Unitech was up 3.5%. BSE Metal Index was up 3.4%, in which Sterlite was up 5.5% and SAIL was up 2%. BSE Oil & Gas & Cap Goods Inde xes were up 2.5% each. Total market turnover was at Rs 87553 crore Vs Rs 95,729 crore yesterday. FNO Turnover was at 66,744 crore Vs 71,150 crore yesterday.

FNO Snapshot:

Nifty Future November premum was at 11 points and December discount was at 6 point. Nifty November added 15.8 lakh shares while December added 27.2 lakh shares. Rollover was at 22% Vs 16.4% a day ago. Power stocks saw fresh long across the board. Metal, Capital goods saw selective long buildup.

Neyveli Lignite: up 20%; added 7.55 lakh share since December; added 23.3 lakh shares in November

Jindal Steel: up 21%; added 44000 shares in December (approx 30% OI buildup)

Jai Prakash Hydro: up 14%; added 15.7 lakh shares in December; 27.7 lakh shares in November

Essar Oil: up 12%; added 28.53 lakh shares in December; rollover was at 30%

Global markets today:

Mixed session for Asian market with low volumes. Markets in Japan were shut today on account of National Holiday. Yen breahces 108 mark for the 1st time since June 2005. Yen depreciates by 47 bps at 108.43; hits intra-day high of 107.49.

Hang Seng gains 2%; ended off its day high. Taiwan, Korea down 1.5%; Thailand up 1.8%. Shanghai Index was up 1%. Late rebound by bank and airline stocks. Turnover hit its lowest level since end-2006. Austrlaince Index ends weak ahead of the outcome of the federal election tomorrow. Taiwan: FIIs net sell equities worth $ 125 million in today’s trade (Prov). FIIs have sold equities worth $ 1.55 billion during this week in Taiwan. FIIs have sold $ 5.2 billion in Nov month till now.
