Sensex dn 120 pts at 19127; Nifty dn 33.5 pts at 5698

Benchmark Indices trade weak after recoevring from days low; mid-cap stocks continue to see action. Sensex was down 120 pts at 19127 while Nifty was down 33.5 pts at 5698. CNX Midcap Index was up nearly 1% while BSE Small cap Index was up 0.3%.

Benchmark Indices trade weak after recoevring from days low; mid-cap stocks continue to see action. Sensex was down 120 points at 19127 while Nifty was down 33.5 points at 5698. CNX Midcap Index was up nearly 1% while BSE Small cap Index was up 0.3%. BSE Auto Index was up 1.2%, in which TVS Motor was up 12.2%, Ashok Leyland was up 16.5%, Hind Motors was up 10% and Rico Auto was up 9.52%. BSE Realty Index was up 1.3%. BSE Metal Index was down 1.2%, in which Sterlite was up 1.5%, Hindalco was down 1.5% and Nalco was down 0.9%. BSE Bank Index was down 1%, in which SBI was up 1.4%, ICICI was down 2.1%. OMCs move up again. BPCL was up 3.2% and HPCL was up 2.8%. Refineries buzz in late trade. Essar Oil was up 16%, Chennai Petro was up 11.5% and Bongaigaon Refinery was up 9%. In Sugar Stocks, Balrampur Chini was up 5.8%, Bajaj Hindustan was up 5.3% and Triveni Engineering was up 4.3%. Non-Index Gainers were Deccan Aviation, up 18%, Ceat, up 17%, Hexaware, up 14% and Piramyd Retail, up 20%. In Exhibition space, PVR was up 20% and Cinemax was up 5.5%. Total market turnover was at Rs 98,814 crore Vs Rs 96,433 crore yesterday. FNO Turnover was at Rs 75,192 crore Vs Rs 75,903 crore yesterday. New listing: Mundra Port & SEZ closes at Rs 963 Vs listing price of Rs 770 (Issue price at Rs 440).

FNO Snapshot:

Nifty added 58.71 lakh shares in Dec while in Nov, it added 8.27 lakh shares. Nifty Nov and Dec remain in premium and short rollovers continued. Marketwide Rollover was at 40% vs 28.3% yesterday. Nifty Rollover was at 46% vs 33% yesterday. Refinery stocks were back in focus and saw long buildup. Financials, Sugar stocks saw strong long buildup. Auto, Cement stocks look strong, rollovers pick up. Strong rollover continued in Textile and Banking space. Rollovers was slightly subdued in the power space.

Global markets today:

Asian stock gains on resumption of carry trade. Korea recovers 4%, Nikkei 2.8%, Taiwan, Hang Seng nearly 2% from days low. Yen depreciates by 70 bps at 108.19; hits intra-day high of 107.27. Abu Dhabi Investment Authority to invest $ 7.5 billion for 4.9% stake in Citigroup. Citi news eased concerns about the US financial crisis.

Hang Seng: Bank of China down 5.2% Singapore's investment arm, Temasek Holdings sold shares in the bank.

Taiwan: FIIs net sell equities worth $ 221.5 million in today’s trade (Prov). FIIs have sold $ 5.09 billion in Nov month till now.

KEC International: Bags 2 orders worth Rs 400 Cr in Saudi Arabia, Namibia.

India Infoline: Orient Global picks up 22% stake in cos consumer finance subsidiary for $ 77 million. RBI allows FIIs to invest up to 100% in co.

HB Stock Holding: Reports say co buys another 1.4% stake in DCM Shriram at Rs 92/sh. Reports say open offer price likely to go up from original offer of Rs 70/sh.

Godrej Industries: At upper circuit; board approves entering into strategic partnership / JV of medical diagnostic business.

Balrampur Chini: Board meet today on issue of shares / convertible bonds on preferential basis to promoters.

Bhushan Steel: Corrects after surging 45% yesterday on talk of stake sale (which was denied by the co). Volumes over 25x 10-day average; Reports suggest SEBI may probe unusual share price move.
